What is the Somatic Enneagram

The Somatic Enneagram is an approach for working with our type structure as it shows up in the body. Rather than being continuously triggered by the “no-go” areas that our type structure fears, we can learn techniques to gently come alongside parts of ourselves we have long avoided.

Through this, we can begin to free ourselves from automatically re-enacting our type patterns — over and over again.

The methodology was developed by Marion Gilbert, who brings together 40 years of experience as a physical therapist with her studies of Gurdjieff, Vajrayana Buddhism,

The Somatic Enneagram

Most Enneagram work happens from the neck up

We think about our Type. We recognise our patterns intellectually. We understand the map — in theory.

But type structure does not live in the mind alone. It lives in the body — in held tensions, automatic reactions, and the physical signatures of our adaptive strategies.

The Somatic Enneagram, developed by Marion Gilbert, offers a way of working with Type as it actually shows up: somatically, relationally, and experientially.

“The Somatic Enneagram has been a life-changing and life-saving process in my own inner journey, enabling me to relax old patterns that were triggering me. That’s why I’m so committed to bringing this work to others.”
